어느날의 조각들 03

Crystal Series 연작은 순수했던 어린시절 자연에서 얻은 ‘어느 날의’ 서정적 경험을 시각적으로 조각한 작품들이다.

신소재 공학에 몸담았던 이력을 가지고 공예의 매력에 빠져 작가의 길을 걷게 된 윤새롬은 고도의 기술력과 인내심을 요구하는 제작 과정을 통해 아크릴이라는 소재에

‘크리스탈 crystal’에 버금가는 영롱한 물성을 이끌어낸 후 작가의 유년 시절 기억에 남아있는 자연의 아름다운 색을 더하는 작업을 한다.

섬세한 설계를 통해 빗어진 조각들은 작가가 의도한 색을 최대한 담을 만한 중립적인 형태로 제작된 후 철저한 계산으로 염색되지만 결과물은 매번 작가의 예상을 벗어난다.

그날의 서사에 따라서 작가의 치밀함보다 더 치밀하게 산란하는 모든 우연들의 공작은 작가의 내면 속 풍경의 재현에 결정적이며 시적인 요소로 작용하여,

윤새롬의 조각은 모두 고유한 빛 지닌 작품이 된다.

이번 미메시스에서 선보이는 ‘어느 날의 조각들 03’의 Crystal Series는 지평에 닿아있는 드넓은 바다의 고요함과 아름다움을 불러온 작업이다.

Crystal Series는 전시된 공간의 컨디션과 시각적으로 긴밀하게 상호작용하도록 설계되어 공간의 볼륨과 빛의 조합, 감상의 위치에 따라 관람자들은 철저하게 개인적인 풍경을 만나게 된다. 이를 통해 각자의 시공간에서 다양한 모습으로 새겨진 자연의 장면들이 같은 울림으로 소환되어 특별한 ‘어느 날’의 정서의 조각으로 간직되기를 바란다.

“나의 어린 시절 가장 오래된 기억은 부모님을 따라 필리핀에서 지냈던 시절의 기억이다. 아름다운 산과 바다, 섬에서 놀던 기억은 또렷하지는 않지만 한 장면 한 장면씩 지금까지도 남아있다. 나는 특히 노을 지는 바닷가를 가장 좋아했다. 무더웠던 낮의 해가 지며 선선해진 바람을 느끼며 부모님과 바닷가에 앉아 어두워질 때까지 노을을 바라보던 기억은 나의 가장 소중한 기억이다.”

The Crystal Series series are works that visually sculpt the lyrical experience of ‘one day’ obtained from the pure nature of childhood.

Yoon Sae-rom, who fell in love with crafts with a history of working in new materials engineering and began to walk the path of an artist, is able to learn about the material called acrylic through a production process that requires high technology and patience.

After drawing out the brilliant physical properties comparable to that of 'crystal', the artist adds the beautiful colors of nature that remain in the artist's childhood memory. The pieces combed through a delicate design are produced in a neutral form that can capture the artist's intended color as much as possible, and then dyed with thorough calculations.

According to the narrative of the day, the craft of all coincidences that scatter more densely than the artist's intricacy acts as a decisive and poetic element in the reproduction of the artist's inner landscape. All of Yoon's sculptures become works of their own light.

The Crystal Series of 'Sculptures of a Day 03' presented at this Mimesis is a work that evokes the stillness and beauty of the vast sea that touches the horizon.

The Crystal Series is designed to visually interact closely with the condition of the displayed space, and depending on the space's volume, light combination, and position of appreciation, viewers will encounter a thoroughly personal landscape. Through this, it is hoped that scenes of nature engraved in various shapes in each time and space will be summoned with the same resonance and kept as a piece of emotion of a special 'one day'.

“The oldest memories of my childhood are the memories of spending time in the Philippines with my parents. The memories of playing in the beautiful mountains, seas and islands are not clear, but scene by scene remains. I especially liked the beach at sunset. The memories of sitting at the beach with my parents and watching the sunset until it gets dark, feeling the cool breeze as the sun sets on a hot day, are my most precious memories.”
